Welcome to the Dare County Library Book Club in a Bag Program!

We are very excited to announce the launch of our Book Club in a Bag Kits. These kits contain 12 copies of a book, a book assignment tracker, discussion questions, and additional resources about the book. The books cover a broad range of fiction and non-fiction. Whether you’re just starting a book club or looking for something new for an existing club, this Kit is just the thing!

General Information:

A representative may check out one Book Club in a Bag kit at a time. That person is responsible for all twelve (12) copies in the set. A Liability Waiver must be signed and will be kept on file while the set is checked out.
Sets must be reserved in-person or via phone call; they cannot be reserved through the online catalog. Sets may be reserved up to twelve (12) months in advance. Contacts to reserve sets at each library are below.
Sets may be checked out for thirty (30) days. There is a seven (7) day turnaround between a set being returned and available to check out to the next hold request.
The Book Club in a Bag kit must be returned, in its entirety (all copies of the book, the bag, and the attached barcode), to a Dare County Library. Please DO NOT put it in the book drop.
Please return the books in the same condition that you received them. Charges for lost or damaged books will be assessed when the set is returned.

Any patron who checks out a Book Club in a Bag set will be expected to sign and honor the Liability Waiver.

A list of titles are on our website or you can call your library for more information.

How do I reserve a Book Club in a Bag Kit?

One member from the book club can call or email the library to reserve a kit.

Can book club members check out titles individually?

No, only one member from the book club can check out the kit. That person is responsible for returning the bag with all 12 copies to the library in good condition.

How long can I keep a kit?

Book Club in a Bag kits check out for 30 days. There is a 7 day turnaround time in between check outs.

Where do I pick up and Return my Book Club in a Bag kit?

You can pick up your kit at your designated home library. Kits can be returned to any Dare County Library during business hours. Please do not put it in a book drop.

What if someone from the book club loses or damages a book?

The person who checked out the kit is responsible for any fines or payments for lost and damaged books.

How far in advance can I reserve a Book Club in a Bag Kit?

We accept reservations up to 12 months in advance.

How many kits can my book club check out at one time?

Only one Book Club in a Bag kit may be checked out to an individual patron at a time.
