Check our inventory to see what's in stock at each seed library location. NOTE: We try to update 'borrowed' seeds daily. Donations should be processed and added within 1-2 weeks.
Checking out seeds is easy! You can review our seed library inventory online or browse through the seeds in-person at any of our library locations.
Anyone can 'check-out' seeds, no Dare County library card is required. We ask that you take what you believe you will use, leaving plenty for others.
Fill out a 'Check-Out' form, noting names and number of seed packets you are taking. Turn your form into the Front Circulation Desk. Please put as much information from the packets (side type/variety- IE "Lemon Basil" or "Nasturtium Fiesta Mix") as possible to assist us in keeping the online inventory up to date.
If properly stored in a cool location away from light, seeds will be viable for approximately one (1) year after the expiration date on the envelope.
New to growing seeds or need help getting your seeds to grow? Watch this video from the Dare Extension Master Gardeners for help. We also have a large selection of Seed books for you to check out.
If you are a seed harvester and have some to share, we welcome you to donate them to our Seed Library. By collecting and sharing seeds grown and harvested from plants on the Outer Banks, we are able perpetuate species that thrive in our local environment while sustaining our free Seed Libraries.
Please fill out the attached form and include it with your bagged and clearly marked donation of seeds. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing donated seeds before they will be available in our three Seed Library locations.
