About Genealogy at CCPL

Currituck County Library has always been committed to the collection and preservation of the histories of the people and places that make up Currituck County. The library is one of the largest repositories of genealogical and historical materials in Eastern North Carolina, and we continue to find new ways to assist patrons with their personal genealogical and historical research pursuits. Here are a few highlights:

  • The Library owns over 1,000 titles in its local history and genealogy collection.
  • The Library is one of the largest repositories for private genealogical manuscripts and collections in Eastern North Carolina. Finding aids for the collection are available at the Barco and Moyock libraries upon request.
  • The Barco Library maintains a paper vertical file and a digital file of our major manuscript collections. Indices are available for consultation in person or via telephone inquiry.
  • The Library maintains status as an Affiliate Library of the LDS Church (the largest repository of genealogical materials in the world). As such, researchers may access digital materials from our Barco branch that they may otherwise not have the ability to view elsewhere.
