Karen Riddick has been a volunteer at the Moyock Library since September 2018. In that time she has been an assistant to the Children's Librarian during the Toddler Storytimes held every Thursday at 10:00AM. Before retiring, Karen worked as a teacher's assistant and second grade teacher with the Virginia Beach Public Schools. Her desire to continue working with children after her retirement motivated her to volunteer at the library.
Karen has never missed a Toddler Storytime and has a way with children. Karen's calm and patient nature serves as a gentle guide and welcoming presence to new storytime families, encouraging participation by both parents and children. In addition to the assistance she provides during storytime, Karen also helps with larger children's events and is an invaluable volunteer to the Moyock Library. Her friendly demeanor, willingness to help in any way she can, and dedication to the children of Moyock embody the spirit in which the Grace Austin Award is presented.
The Grace Austin Award was established in 1999 and is given annually to a person or organization providing special service to the Currituck County Public Library.
